UNLV junior Dana Finkelstein is tied for the lead at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Finkelstein shot a 2-under-par 69 and is tied with California's Lucia Gutierrez for first at the invite which is being played at the par-71, 6,084-yard, Stanford Golf Course.
UNLV senior guard Rmanii Haynes' steal and free throws in the final 83 seconds broke a tie and were the eventual game-winning points in a thrilling 82-80 victory over Utah State on Saturday afternoon in Mountain West women's basketball action at the Cox Pavilion.
The UNLV track & field team competed in a trio of events Friday at Washington's Husky Classic and ended the evening with a program-best time in the distance medley relay and a couple of personal bests in a pair of events. The DMR foursome of Laura Affeld, Mandy Chitwood, Miranda Menzies and Auzsane Crowe-Carter ran a time of 11:45.48 to rewrite a record that has stood at UNLV since 1994 (11:46.29).
The UNLV softball team (1-6) suffered a pair of tough losses to open up its portion of the Easton Desert Classic Friday night. UNLV began the two-game set with a hard-fought, 3-1 setback to the #10 Oregon Ducks (5-1) in 10 innings of play before dropping a 6-0 decision to the #22 Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-0). Both contests took place at Eller Media Stadium, one of two sites for the four-day tournament that has features an 18-team, 45-game slate.
The 60th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team was already short-handed without the services of its number two player but then also ran into a surging Pepperdine squad in a 6-1 defeat Friday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
