Something about pitching in the Bay Area just works for UNLV junior John Richy. He pitched the second complete game of his career and led UNLV baseball (13-4, 7-1 Mountain West) to a 2-1 victory over San José State (5-15, 2-6 MW) on Saturday at Municipal Stadium.
The UNLV softball team suffered a 12-4, six-inning decision to the Cal State Fullerton Titans Friday at the Titan Classic held at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif. The Rebels (9-15) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in their first at-bat only to see the Titans (17-10) answer with four of their own in the bottom half of the first and eight more in the subsequent innings.
The No. 23 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 4-under-par 284 on Friday and is in a tie for fourth place at the National Invitational Tournament, which is being played at OMNI Tucson National (par 72, 7,200 yards).

The Rebels got two RBI apiece from Pauline Monreal and Samantha Juarez to pace the offense while Amanda Oliveto (4-8) tossed a one-hitter in a complete-game effort to extend their winning streak to two.
UNLV junior Kurt Kitayama and New Mexico junior Gavin Green have been selected as the Mountain West Men's Co-Golfers of the Week for tournaments played March 4-11. This is the second MW weekly accolade for both student-athletes.
