The UNLV Community Concert Band was formed in 1987 and is open to any student or Las Vegas-area resident who wishes to perform in a concert band. More than 85 members form the UNLV Community Concert Band and range in age from high school students to senior citizens.
The band, conducted by associate director of bands Professor Anthony LaBounty, plays a wide variety of music and performs concerts both on and off campus each semester.
“I have been privileged to conduct this band for the past 24 of its 25 years," said LaBounty. "The members of the organization constantly strive for improvement and it is exponentially demonstrated at our concerts both on and off campus. This band is really an asset to UNLV and the Las Vegas community."
The UNLV Community Concert Band toured Ireland in 2009 performing in St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, and will tour Florence, Venice and perform in Rome, Italy in June 2012.
